A la Blanc: A Unique Blend of Eclectic and Serene Residential Interior Design

Creating a Controlled Balance Between Decoration and Minimalism

The apartment owner asked for a design that was neither ostentatious nor minimalist, resulting in a project that aims to strike a controlled balance between decorative elements and simplicity. With high ceilings and a focus on whitish undertones, the interior space exudes an airy and calm atmosphere. The use of mirrors creates an endless illusion, while marble veins gently permeate the walls, adding a touch of elegance.

The uniqueness of A la Blanc lies in its eclectic contrasts between texture colors and whitish backdrops. The brass pendant light contrasts with the indigo streamlined sofa, while the copper skirting completes the slate-blue kitchenette cabinets. This complementary color scheme is further enhanced by metallic lusts that coordinate with the decoration colors, resulting in a visually stunning and cohesive design.

To bring the designer's vision to life, shimmering grey elements were added to the lower TV niche design, echoing the marble vein lines. Bending titanium-metal plates were combined irregularly to create forms with a polyline structure. The tall bookshelves alongside the TV niche were also composed of the same polyline structure. The diffused glows refracting from the porcelain-tile flooring further enhance the calm and composed statement conveyed by the lower niche.

The design specifications for A la Blanc include a built area of 115 square meters. The project was realized in Taichung city, Taiwan, and took place from October 2018 to February 2019. The design team, led by Hsin-Ting Weng, included Shih-Ting Hsu, Jen Chen, and Meng-Hsun Li.

The interaction within the design is carefully crafted to enhance the lifestyle of the residents. The master bedroom, filled with natural light, exudes a poised atmosphere. Metallic details give contemporary touches to the interior decorations, blending a literary ambiance with the co-existence of greens outdoors. In the other room, despite the deep backdrops, the interior space is illuminated with light through venetian blinds. Colors and knickknacks create playful ambiances, which are further enhanced by mirror reflections.

A la Blanc was the result of extensive research on color combinations and coordination. The designer explored blue monochrome palettes and studied how different colors could match with blue. This research led to the discovery that royal blue pairs well with mustard yellow, and a new purplish blue was customized to coordinate with metallic copper colors on the kitchenette skirting.

One of the creative challenges faced during the design process was the eyesore of the staircase handrail from the basement to the kitchen area. To overcome this, a tall storage cabinet was installed beneath white fluted doors. This not only complied with the master plan's color scheme but also ensured that all linear arrangements were clean and orderly.

A la Blanc, with its flawless serenity and unique blend of eclectic aesthetics, stands as a testament to the creativity and innovation of the design team at Ris Interior Design Co., Ltd. This design has been recognized with the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This award is a testament to the well-designed, practical, and innovative nature of A la Blanc, which meets professional and industrial requirements while contributing to a better world.
